Troubleshooting
The following checklist will help you remedy
proble m s you may encount er w ith your un it.
Before go i ng t hr ough the checklis t be low, c heck
the connec t i on and operating procedures.
General
No sound.
• Rotate the volume control dial to adjust the
volume.
• Cancel the ATT f unction.
• Set the f ader control to the centre posi tion for
a 2-speaker sy stem.
• You tried to play back M P 3 files with an
optional CD unit which is incomp at ib le with
MP3.
t Play back with a Sony MP3 compatible
CD unit, such as the CDX-757MX.
The contents of the memory have been
erased.
• The RESET button has been pr essed.
t Store again into the memory.
• The power lead or battery has been
disconnected.
• The power connect in g l ead is not connect ed
properly.
No beep sound.
• The beep soun d i s cancel le d ( page 15).
• An op tional power amplifier is connect ed
and you are not using the built-in amplifier.
The display disappears from/does not
appear in the display window.
• The display disappea rs if you pr ess an d hold
(OFF).
t Press and hold (OFF) again until the
display appears.
• Rem ove the fr ont pane l a nd clean the
connecto rs. For detail s, see “Cleaning the
connect ors” on page 21.
Stored stations and correct time are erased.
The fuse has blown.
Makes noise when the ignition key is in the
ON, ACC, or OFF position.
The lea ds are not matc hed corr ectly wi t h the
car’s accessor y powe r connector.
No power is being supplied to the unit.
• Check the co nnection. If everything is in
order, check the fuse.
• The car does not have an ACC position.
t Press (SOURCE) (or insert a c asse tte) to
turn on th e unit.
The power is continuously supplied to the
unit.
The car does not have an ACC position.
The power aerial does not extend.
The power ae ri al does not have a rela y box.
Tape playback
The sound is distorted.
The tape head is co nt am i nated .
t C lean the head with a commercially
available dry-ta pe clean i ng casse tte.
The AMS does not operate correctly.
• There is noise in the space between tracks.
• A blank space is too short (less than 4
seconds).
• A long pause, or a passage of low
freq uencies or very lo w soun d lev el is t reated
as a bla nk space.
Radio reception
Preset tuning is not possible.
• Sto re the correc t f requency i n the memory.
• The br oadcast signa l is t oo weak .
The stations cannot be received.
The sound is hampered by noises.
• Conne ct a p o wer ae ri al con tr ol lea d ( blue ) o r
accessory power supply lead (red) to the
power supply lead of a car’s aerial booster
(onl y when your car has bui lt-i n FM/AM
aeri al i n the rear /side glass).
• Ch eck the c onnecti on of the car aeri al.
• The auto aerial w i ll not go up.
t Check the connection of the power aerial
control lea d.
• Check the frequency.
• Whe n t he DSO m ode is on, the sound is
sometimes hampered by noises.
t Se t the D SO mode to “OFF” (pag e 17 ).
Automatic tuning is not possible.
• The local seek mode is set to “ON.”
t Set the local seek mode to “OFF”
(page 10).
• The br oadcast signa l is t oo weak .
t Pe rf orm manual tuni ng.
The “ST” indication flashes.
• Tune in the frequency accurately.
• The br oadcast signa l is t oo weak .
t Set the monaural reception mode to
“ON” (page 11).
A programme broadcast in stereo is heard
in monaural.
The unit is in monaural re ception m ode.
t Cancel monaural reception mode
(page 11).
